Why do they call him the Angel of Stern?

Every time I watch PTI on ESPN and they have a story about NBA Commissioner David Stern, they refer to him as "The Angel of Stern". Does anyone know what the story is behind this? I can't find it anywhere on Google. I haven't followed the NBA closely enough in the past few years to know what the deal is with this nickname. Please try not to speculate if at all possible, I'd really like to know the for sure, real reason. Thanks
