Iraq War apologists, was the war the best way we could have spent our money?

Given the current economic situation in America, was spending 3 trillion dollars to go to war based on "WMD.... errr Iraqi freedom" the best, or even a good, or even a mediocre way to have spent so much American money? For those that don't agree, what would have been a better way to spend this money either prior to the recession to prevent it, or currently to deal with it?
