Do to my ignorance of politics and such, can someone give me the 'low down' on Sarah Palin?

She is an American politician of the Republican conservative party and front runner/mouth piece for the tea party movement. She grew extremely popular during the 2008 election when she was the running mate of John McCain. She grew extremely popular because conservative women felt as though she was "real" and more in touch with the common working cl. She is (and was) heavily criticised for being particularly unintelligent, and ignorant of the workings of her countries political systems, historical figures, and having ridiculous theories about particular subjects. She now works for Fox news, a radically conservative news media outlet.
