My 12-pound cat needs ACL surgery. Is this necessary, or can she live without it?

A ruptured ACL is not life threatening, no, but it will NOT repair itself without surgery. Your cat will suffer severe arthritic pain if it is not repaired and nursed carefully after surgery.
